AU Fan Ficlet

(because I wanted to experiment with other characters and I wanted to imagine our characters going to high school)
Fingers tapped against a desk, the small rapping noise filling the class. Or so it seemed to Hikari, who was doing her best not to strangle her classmate. Aiko was a slender boy who was a bit taller than she, yet several years younger. Not for the first time, Hikari raised her eyes to the ceiling hoping that some mystical being would take her far away from this school with so few students that they all belonged to the same home room. She sighed and looked to the other side of the room. Her friend Merry was making wild gestures and jabbing her pencil at a design she ha doodled on a piece of paper. Hikari nearly snorted at the confused look on Lio's face as e tried to understand. They were both near geniuses, but it was hard to interpret Mercutia's ideas when she didn't have a computer in front of her with an editing system and a steady stream of code. Her scrawlings were nearly indecipherable. Merry saw her looking and crossed her eyes, tongue hanging out of her mouth in the universal sign for "This is killing me." Hikari giggled. Sitting near the two was a small girl named Aessa. She didn't know much about her except for the fact that she carried a medical kit on her at all times, was fond of pudding, and supposedly carried a hammer around like a security blanket. The three 'corner buddies' were nearly inseparable and called themselves the Foxhounds, since their motto was "The truth shall be sniffed out!" she snorted, remembering that day when out on the courtyard she had passed by them as they had held up bananas as if they were swords and had sworn to seek the truth with absolute solemnity on their faces. Aiko gave her a questioning glance before turning to fumble with his keychain. She rolled her eyes once more. The boy had keys for everything. Over at the back of class Luke, a student one year older than her, was dozing off and two girls were giggling. Ueda and Hachi right? She wrinkled her forehead, thinking. In any case, she couldn't wait for the field day next week. She would be sure to conquer the school. She leaned back, imagining delicious victory. Just in time too. She spotted a spitball that sailed right through the airspace she had been occupying. Yep, just another day at Sr. Fiore's  School for the Gifted. Eh, where was her lighter when she need it?

Aiko walked down the hall, hands shoved in pockets, and a mouth stretched into a yawn. As he walked, he smiled at the jingle of keys coming from his pockets. If there was anything he liked more than sliding a key into a lock and feeling the rush of power as he realised that only he could open or shut anything in particular, it was the way that his keys reminded him that they were always with him, chiming greetings every time he moved. The clear notes of metal on metal improved his mood greatly. Up until the point he ran into Lionel Shinsuke. Aiko preferred to call him the biggest asshat that had ever lived. "Shinsuke." He acknowledged, attempting to brush past. Lionel furrowed his brow and grabbed onto his arm. "Hey," he said, objecting to Aiko's behaviour, "you pretty much just ran into me an didn't even say sorry. You just growled my name at me and tried to walk away. That is not a good example of manners." Aiko rolled his eyes and wrenched his arm away. "I don't apologise to jerks." He said. Lionel rolled his eyes. "What did I ever do to you?" He asked. Aiko glared and walked away without another word. His day had just gone from an A to a C+, he thought miserably. 'Stupid Shinsuke.' Meanwhile Lio scratched his head wondering whatever he had done to piss off the kid with the keys.  He shrugged, deciding it didn't matter. After all, he didn't like Aiko much either. "Lio! Hurry up! I think the Physics lab is doing an experiment involving lightening's affect on electronics!" Merry had peeked out the side of another hallway to inform him of his favourite class' activities. Lio immediately perked up. "Coming!"
