The trees blew in the wind as rain beat down their leaves. Aessa looked up to the sky only to feel a rain drop hit her right eye. She sighed, looked around, and stood under a tree. Since it was raining, Aessa had been looking for injured birds and animals to practice her healing on. She only just recently learned the Novice Heal spell, and was aiming to get to Advanced Heal before the Battle Tournament, an event in Magnolia that many people looked forward to. She looked around once more before heading deeper into the forest. She wouldn't go too far in, she had heard about a giant-monkey thing that has some type of grudge against mages.
She walked for 5 minutes before looking down to see a nest with 6 baby birds and their mother bird had fallen out of their tree. Panicked, the birds began attempting to run away from Aessa, but they couldn't walk easily, and couldn't fly in the rain. The mother bird had a bleeding cut in her wing, along with 5 of the baby birds that were scratched up. The 6th seemed to have landed on it's mother, which may have been the reason that the mother bird was bleeding. But at the time, that didn't matter. Aessa carefully put each of the birds back in the nest and took them under a large tree. Not all the rain is blocked here, but I think it will be okay. I just need to pluck a couple of the leaves to lay them on so the wounds have less of a chance to get infected., she thought, sighing in her mind. Aessa knew she was too short to get one of the leaves down, but luckily, the rain knocked a couple down in the next couple of minutes.
Aessa set each injured bird on a leaf. She started with the babies, since if the mother weren't wounded, she would be pecking her to death right about now. The first one wasn't hard to heal, in fact, it was easier than the woman's knee. The second one had a wound that Aessa hadn't noticed on its stomach. A cut worse than the mother's. "It's okay, little bird, I'll help you right away.." She mumbled, concentrating magic power into the wound. Easily, it closed up a bit, but that wasn't enough to satisfy Aessa. She kept trying over and over again, exhausting herself. Eventually, the cut closed completely and turned into a scar. Aessa sighed to herself while healing the rest of the babies.
Now for the mother, Aessa thought to herself, placing the babies in their nest. She repeated the healing process 3 times before it closed up. Good... It didn't leave a scar this time. I think I'm at Basic Healing level, now.
