The dark clouds loomed over the town, blocking out light from the sun. It was dark, but not as dark as night, however. Trees blew back and forth with the almost mind-changing wind, shaking every living thing living inside the tree. Aessa paced back and forth near the edge of her bed, wondering who to help today. She decided on helping lumberjacks. They had told her that a large order came in and that they would need extra strength, but it hadn't hit Aessa that she could learn Arms by doing this until now. She grabbed her jacket, put it on, and rushed out the door. She knew where they were that day.
The wind was slowing her down, but it didn't take Aessa long to arrive. When she got there, the lumberjack leader smiled at her, and stopped chopping. "Aessa, what are you doing here? It's not a very good day for a walk...Training?"
"Yes. I've come to learn the spell Arms. It strengthens people, so I thought I could help you guys by trying it out."
"You've come on a good day. Go ahead, I'm not stopping you.", He chuckled, getting back to work.
Aessa decided to warm up before she tried this. She would cast it in a large group, to help them all, so it would require more energy than Vernier had, only one day before. She sat down to clear her thoughts. That took her about 5 minutes, because she had, as a girl, a lot on her mind. After that, she cut herself with a rock and healed it. Not the most elegant thing to do, but she saw it as necessary. Aessa stood up and held out her hands, put her feet about 2 ft. away from each other, and started whispering the incantation.
"O strengthen of arm to cleave the heavens!
ARMS!"
She said, exhausted from even trying out the spell. She knew it hadn't worked by the lumberjack's worried face. But Aessa just smiled clumsily, and sat down for a minute. She had to clear her thoughts more, and get some energy back before she tried again. Trying again and again was just reckless, and wouldn't help at all. In 15 minutes of rest, Aessa tried again, chanting the incantation once more. She could feel in her own body that it had worked. The lumberjack smiled at her, and gave her his thanks, as well as a small wooden doll of a bird. Aessa thanked him and headed home.
As soon as she got home, Aessa jumped onto her bed and fell right asleep.
